Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the challenges faced by high performing school teacher leaders in implementing continuous professional development programs. This study used a qualitative approach by interviewing eight teacher leaders. The participants were purposefully selected based on various criteria such as length of service as a leader. The interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis that found five themes as follows: (i) workload factor, (ii) teacher knowledge factor, (iii) attitude and interest factor, (iv) training suitability factor and (v) financial factors. The implication of this study is that there is a need for stakeholders, especially school leaders, to identify challenges in implementing the continuing professional development program in order to recognize factors contributing to these challenges and to implement improvements.
