Abstract

The role of principal in school is to apply the appropriate leadership style to increase the capacity and excellence of the school. The capacity and excellence of schools can be enhanced if teachers collaborate through cultivating the practice of Professional Learning Communities. This effort can certainly increase the level of efficiency of teachers or also known as self-efficacy which in turn improves the quality of teaching and the level of students’ achievement. This article aims to validate the Learning-Centered Leadership (KBP), Professional Learning Community (KPP), and Teacher Self-Efficacy (EKG) instruments using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The KBP instrument includes 25 items, KPP instrument contains 44 items and EKG includes 12 items. This study involves the analysis of quantitative data collected using questionnaires. Sample selection was done using stratified and random sampling methods. The study involved 410 respondents consisting of teachers in National Secondary Schools in Sarawak, Malaysia. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 26.0. The results of the EFA analysis showed that KBP was represented by 24 items (one item was removed), KPP was represented by 44 items (no items were removed) and EKG was represented by nine items (three items were removed, three factors reduced to two factors). Overall, the EFA indicates that this instrument is suitable for the actual research among National Secondary School teachers in Sarawak. In addition, this article provides a systematic evidence-based guide to conducting EFA procedures for the validity of research instruments so that they are relevant to the context of study.
