Abstract

This study aimed to identify the teaching practices of Additional Mathematics teachers from the perspective of students involving aspects of instructional methods, appropriateness of teaching levels, motivational strategies and teaching time management. This case study used a quantitative method with the use of a questionnaire to 65 of Form 4 students selected by purposive sampling from a secondary school in the district of Muar, Johor. The findings of the study were analyzed descriptively using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) v26.0. Overall, the study found that the teaching practice of Additional Mathematics teachers from the perspective of students is high. However, it was found that teaching practices in terms of motivational strategies and teaching time management were higher than in instructional method and the appropriateness of teaching levels. These findings can be used as a benchmark and guide to all teachers, especially teachers of Additional Mathematics to improve teaching to be in line with the skills and achievements of students with the provision of professionalism courses by relevant parties. To get a broader perspective, future studies can be conducted to explore the teaching practices of Additional Mathematics teachers from other aspects such as teacher questioning techniques.
