Abstract

This study aims to examine the supervisory communication of school leaders and its relationship with school effectiveness in Dalat district, Sarawak. Quantitative approach with a survey study design was used to obtain results for this study. Supervisory communication was measured using Supervisory Communication Scale (SCS) which contained seven elements, while school effectiveness was measured using the School Effectiveness Questionnaire (SEQ) which contained 11 elements. Random sampling method was employed to select a total of 234 teachers from primary and secondary schools in Dalat district. Data were collected using questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistical data analysis was done using SPSS 26 software. The findings of the study showed that five out of seven supervisory communication elements are highly practiced by school leaders. Overall, school effectiveness was at a high level for each element. There was a strong and positive relationship between supervisory communication practiced by school leaders and school effectiveness (r=0.779, p<0.01). Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected. This study suggested that school leaders need to improve their supervisory communication skills to increase their school effectiveness.
