Abstract

Leadership Talent in education is a new thing, especially in our country. Through Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013-2025), the appointments of principals or head teachers are decided not based on length of service anymore. To ensure that the appointed school leaders have real leadership potential, they are exposed to training and professional development, known as the National Professional Qualification for Educational Leaders (NPQEL) (formerly known as the National Professional Qualification Principalship - NPQH) for aspiring candidates and high potential to be principals or headmasters. The study involved 363 graduates who served in school administration more than two years after successfully completed the course. The aim of this study was to check for relationship between school leaders' leadership talent and school leadership and direction of the school. Pearson correlation test shows that the relationship between school leadership and direction and leadership talent is significant (r = .87, p <.01), and strong. The proposed model is clearly demonstrated using SEM aided program AMOS 21[χ2 (N = 363, df = 65) = 942.55, p <0.05] with the index value of GFI, CFI, TLI, NFI less than 0.9 and RMSEA > 0.08.
