Abstract

In today's increasingly data-driven world, the use of data has become a critical aspect of decision-making in all industries including education. School leaders are constantly faced with the challenge of effectively using data to make informed decisions and improve student outcomes. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the level of data use and challenges faced by school leaders. This quantitative study was conducted in the state of Selangor which involved 120 secondary school leaders as respondents. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 to obtain the mean and standard deviation data for descriptive analysis. Findings from this study indicate that school leaders show a high level of data usage. However, in their efforts to use data, they face challenges related to data accuracy, insufficient proficiency in handling data, teachers' attitudes and readiness toward data, as well as data availability problems. The outcome of this study can benefit school leaders in enhancing their utilization of data and confronting the challenges to enable effective decision making.
