Abstract

In the world of information and communication technology (ICT), principals should be able to master the technology leadership practices. Therefore, the role of technology leadership is essential to enhance teacher self-efficacy in implementing the latest technology-based teaching and learning. This study was conducted to identify the relationship between principal technology leadership and teacher self-efficacy. A total of 422 teachers from 24 secondary schools around Kedah were involved in the quantitative study. The data in this study were collected using a cross-sectional survey approach using 56 items in the questionnaire form. The findings indicate that the level of principal technology leadership is high. At the same time, the overall level of teacher self-efficacy was also high among the respondents of the study. From the correlation test, there was a significant but modest positive relationship between principal technology leadership and self-efficacy of secondary school teachers in Kedah state (r = 0.45, p <0.01). In addition, digital age learning culture and digital citizenship for technology leadership contribute to the highest impact on teacher self-efficacy. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that principals who practice technology leadership can enhance teacher self-efficacy. The technology approach in 21st century education (PAK-21) should not be a burden on teachers, but it will help in teaching strategies, student engagement and classroom management.
