PENERIMAAN M-PEMBELAJARAN DALAM KALANGAN PENSYARAH INSTITUT PENDIDIKAN GURU MALAYSIA MELALUI THE UNIFIED THEORY OF ACCEPTANCE AND USE OF TECHNOLOGY (UTAUT): SATU KAJIAN AWAL

Abstract

The potential of M-Learning to be implemented in formal education has gained interest in Malaysian education system nowadays. However, the implementation of MLearning in formal education is still in its infancy and can be accomplished if it is made in proper planning, in terms of its acceptance into formal education by all parties involved from the beginning. Therefore, this study aimed to identify level of lecturers’ acceptance on M-Learning and the readiness of Institute of Teacher Education’s lecturers in terms of their access to mobile devices and the capability level of the devices owned by them. The level of acceptance was identified using The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) which explains user intentions to use an information system (IS) and subsequent usage behaviour. This theory included four main constructs i.e. Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, and Facilitating conditions as determinants directly about the intention to use behaviour. The study involved 42 lecturers in Malaysia Institute of Teacher Education (IPGM) in central zone’s campuses. The questionnaires that used in this study were distributed through online. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) involving descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, percentage and frequency. The findings showed that the lecturers have at least one mobile device technology with the devices they have at least the required minimum capacity to implement M-Learning. This revealed that the lecturers have access to the technology needed for the incorporation of M-Learning in their formal teaching process. They also showed the high level of acceptance and intend to use M-Learning in their formal course.
