This article discusses Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s perspective in contemporary fiqh, focusing specifically on agricultural zakat. To achieve this objective, the study analyzes his views on agricultural zakat as presented in his book Fiqh al-Zakat. The researcher concentrates on four key issues related to agricultural zakat: the types of agricultural produce subject to zakat, the nisab (minimum threshold) for agricultural zakat, the deduction of debts, land tax (kharaj) and production costs prior to zakat payment, and zakat on leased agricultural land. The study finds that al-Qaradawi’s views on agricultural zakat are appropriate and relevant to contemporary realities. This is because he employs methods and methodologies that tend toward preserving public interest (maslahah) while taking into consideration current circumstances and local customs (ʿurf) in the determination of legal rulings. His views have been widely adopted in fatwas across the Muslim world.
