Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double blind.
  • Submitted manuscript to this journal is closed to any withdrawal or cancellation until further decision from the editor. There is no charge for manuscript submission and processing.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word file format.
  • The manuscript must be clearly written using Bahasa Melayu, Arabic or English languages and should be of interest to a broad readership.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All conflicts of interest must be declared by all prospective contributors in the Acknowledgement section of the manuscript. Conflicts of interest include any personal or professional affiliation, any financial interests, and/or any past, present or anticipated activities that may compromise the quality or objectivity of the manuscript.
  • The author(s) of the manuscript agree to transfer the copyright to JIER Editorial Team.

Author Guidelines

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double blind.

Submitted manuscript to this journal is closed to any withdrawal or cancellation until further decision from the editor. There is no charge for manuscript submission and processing.

Submitted manuscript must be original work. Manuscript that has been published elsewhere or are being considered for publication by other journal of publication would not be considered. However, manuscript accepted in conference proceedings that has been revised, updated, and extended may be considered for review. The author must assume full responsibility for the contents of the manuscript.

The manuscript should be submitted in the digital file form *.docx or *.doc which would be compatible for the computer application Microsoft Word.

The manuscript must be clearly written using Bahasa Melayu, Arabic or English languages and should be of interest to a broad readership. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to ensure that the Bahasa Melayu, Arabic or English languages used has been thoroughly checked to ensure that there is no grammatical or spelling error. Author(s) who wish to refine the use of Bahasa Melayu, Arabic or English languages in the manuscript(s) may like to consider engaging professional editing services. Any costs incurred in engaging such services are the sole responsibility of the author(s).

The manuscript should be prepared on A4 size with 2.0 cm margin from the top and 2.0 cm margin from the bottom, left and right respectively. The text is single spaced and justified, uses a 12-point font of Garamond for Roman characters, while Traditional Arabic 14-point font should be used for Arabic characters, employ italic rather than underlining (except with URL addresses). Paragraphs should be separated by double spacing.

All manuscripts submitted for consideration to this journal should have a Title Page indicating the article title, full name(s) of author(s), affiliation(s), mailing and email address(es).

Centered at the top of the first page of the manuscript should be the complete title of the manuscript, and with title in English if the manuscript in Bahasa Melayu or Arabic language. Please write full name(s) of author(s), affiliation(s), mailing and email address(es) in the Title Page instead of writing them in the Manuscript.

The manuscript must contain an abstract in the language of the manuscript and in English. The length of the abstract must be between 150 to 200 words including the issue or problem statement, objective, methodology and finding of the study. Please also provide minimum 3 and maximum 5 chosen keywords in the language of the manuscript as well as in English for indexing purposes.

Sections and subsections should be given the titles respectively. Bolded capital letters should be used for the section titles. For subsections, the first letter of each word should be in capital letter, followed by small letters and all must be italic.

Any tables, figures or illustrations should be placed on the same page as far as possible, otherwise it may be placed on the immediate following page. It must be assigned an Arabic numerals as table or figure number; the table number and title, and the figure number and title should be placed on top of the table and figure. The source of the table and figure, if applicable, should be placed below the table and the figure. The first letter of the title should be in capital letter. Any tables, figures or illustrations should be placed in the middle of the page between left and right margins.

Each manuscript should be between 4,000 to 10,000 words or 10 to 20 pages (in single spaced) including tables, figures, illustrations and references. Suitability of length of manuscript is dependent on the subject matter and focus. The page number should be written at the lower center of each page.

References should be focused on the most pertinent, and up-to-date sources. In matters of grammar and usage, this journal refers to the style guide of the American Psychological Association (APA) (http://www.apastyle.org). The references should be provided in English if the manuscript written in Arabic language.

The manuscript must provide a complete bibliography. Bibliographic references must be arranged alphabetically and follow the following format:

Book: Surname of the Author(s), Initial(s). (Year). Title of the Book. Name of Publisher. Example: Brown, J. (2007). The Canonization of al-Bukhari and Muslim. Brill.

Chapter or Article in a Book: Surname of the Author(s), Initial(s). (Year). "Title of the Chapter or Article." in Surname of the Author(s) or Editor(s) of the Book, Initial(s). Title of the Book. Name of Publisher. Pages comprising the chapter or article within the book. Example: Duri, A. A. (1990). "Jerusalem in the Early Islamic Period: 7th - 11th Century AD." in Asali, K. J. (Ed.). Jerusalem in History. Scorpion Publishing. 105-129.

Journal: Surname of the Author(s), Initial(s). (Year). Title of the Article. Name of the Journal, Volume or Issue(Number), Pages comprising the article within the journal. Example: Conybear, F. C. (1986). Antiochus Strategos' Account of the Sack of Jerusalem in A.D. 614. The English Historical Review, 25(99), 502-516.

Where available, URLs for the references have to be provided.

POLICY

All submitted manuscripts will be acknowledged upon receipt via email. Review of the manuscript is carried out as swiftly as possible. Once a decision for publication, whether accepted or rejected, is made, the corresponding author will be notified by email.

Every manuscript contributed will be reviewed at least by one reviewer from our editors or co-editors. The journal, due to certain occasions, has a right to sent it to the outside reviewer.

 

ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE STATEMENT

Journal of Islamic Educational Research (JIER) is a peer reviewed international journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. Therefore, the prevention of publication malpractice is one of the important responsibilities of the editorial board. To that purpose, all the actors of JIER publication, authors, reviewers and members of the editorial team, are expected to fully adhere to our policy regarding publication ethics and malpractice, and respect the following statements:

AUTHOR'S RESPONSIBILITIES

The authors should ensure that their work is entirely original works, and if the work and/or words of others have been used, this has been appropriately acknowledged. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

They must ensure that the manuscript has not been issued elsewhere. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. The corresponding author should ensure all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

If at any point of time, author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in submitted manuscript, then the error or inaccuracy must be reported to the editor. If the editor or the publisher learns from a third party that a published work contains a significant error, it is the obligation of the author to promptly retract or correct the paper or provide evidence to the editor of the correctness of the original paper.

EDITOR'S RESPONSIBILITIES

Editors should evaluate manuscripts exclusively on the basis of their academic merit. An editor must not use unpublished information in the editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Editors must ensure that each manuscript received by the journal is reviewed for its intellectual content without regard to sex, gender, race, religion, citizenship, etc. of the authors.

Editors should ensure the integrity of the publication review process. As such, editors should not reveal either the identity of authors of manuscripts to the reviewers, or the identity of reviewers to authors.

Editors must ensure that all the information related to submitted manuscripts is kept as confidential before publishing.

EDITORIAL BOARD'S RESPONSIBILITIES

The editorial board is responsible for deciding which of the submitted articles should be published.

The editorial board must ensure that information regarding manuscripts submitted by the authors is kept confidential.

The editorial board is accountable for everything published in the journal, thus they has complete responsibility and authority to accept/reject an article. However, the published manuscript would not represent the stand or opinion of the Editorial Board and the Management Team of JIER, or the Islamic Education Programme, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya.

The editorial board should take reasonably responsive measures when ethical complaints have been presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published paper. They shall conduct proper and fair investigation into ethical complaints.

REVIEWER'S RESPONSIBILITIES

Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Reviewers must not have conflicts of interest with respect to the research, the authors or the research funding.

Judgments by the reviewers should be as objective as possible. There shall be no personal criticism of the author. They should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

In the event that a reviewer feels it is not possible for him/her to complete review of manuscript within stipulated time, then this information must be communicated to the editor, so that the manuscript could be sent to another reviewer.
