Mastery of Arabic grammar influences language proficiency, particularly writing skills. Therefore, Arabic grammar must be emphasized in the teaching and learning of the Arabic language to ensure that language skills—especially writing—are effectively acquired. The purpose of this study is to identify students’ mastery of Arabic grammar and their ability to apply it in writing skills, as well as to analyze grammatical errors in their writing. This research adopts a quantitative approach. The instruments used include an Arabic grammar proficiency test and a writing skills test. The respondents consist of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates who successfully continued their studies at the Foundation level in Malaysian public universities. Descriptive analysis was employed to determine the level of students’ mastery of Arabic grammar. Grammatical errors in writing were identified based on deviations from standard Arabic grammatical rules and systems. The respondents’ ability to apply Arabic grammar in writing skills was assessed based on their use of grammar in essay writing. The findings indicate that the ability of Malaysian public university Foundation students to apply Arabic grammar in writing skills is at a moderate level.
