Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine headmasters’ leadership communication style and its relationship with primary school teachers’ self-efficacy in Dalat, Sarawak. Quantitative approach with a survey study design was used in this study. Headmasters’ leadership communication styles was measured using Leadership Communication Profile (LCP) and teachers’ self efficacy was measured using Teachers’ Sense of Self-Efficacy Scale (TSES). A total of 169 teachers in Dalat district primary schools were selected as samples. The data was analyse using Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) version 25.0. The analysis showed that the headmasters practised all the three leadership communication styles at high level (M = 4.15, and SD = 0.68313). The level of teachers’ self-efficacy were also high (M = 7.49, SD = 1.04724). The headmasters’ leadership communication style had a significant positive relationship with the teachers’self efficacy (r = 0.324, p <0.05) at medium strength. This study implies that school leaders should understand the function of leadership communication styles and use them as their strategies in leading the school communities towards the schools goals.
