This paper highlights the prominence and contributions of Sheikh Mustafa Ismail in the field of Qur’anic recitation (tilawah) in the art of tarannum, as well as his distinctive style of recitation (uslub al-qira’ah) from 1934 to 1978. Following his passing, numerous recordings of his recitations were preserved, whether in the form of tarannum or murattal, by individuals, recording companies such as Sawt al-Qahirah, and the Qur’an Radio broadcast (Idhaʿat al-Qur’an) in Egypt. According to sources, the total recorded duration of his tarannum and murattal recitations amounted to 52,624 hours. However, only approximately 300 hours remain available today, while the rest have reportedly been lost. This valuable scholarly heritage (turath) has had a profound impact on the study of tarannum, as enthusiasts and students of the discipline regard his recitations as key references and guides, particularly in melodic structures and vocal techniques. This study employs a library research approach, whereby data from primary and secondary sources were collected and analyzed. The findings indicate that Sheikh Mustafa Ismail was a renowned and influential Qur’anic reciter who made significant contributions to the field of Qur’anic recitation, especially in melodic methods and vocal techniques. His melodious and captivating compositions succeeded in bringing people closer to the Qur’an, to the extent that his recitation style has been emulated by many Qur’anic reciters worldwide.
