Abstract

Qur’anic education possesses its own distinctive characteristics, objectives, goals, and methods in conveying its message to humanity. Among the examples of education in the Qur’an is Luqman’s guidance to his son. Luqman’s educational approach represents an excellent model for guiding humanity toward the straight path in order to attain well-being in this world and the Hereafter. It is a Rabbani (God-centered) educational model suitable for all humankind. This study examines the verses concerning Luqman’s educational guidance in Surah Luqman. The primary focus of the study is to explore the ideology and interpretation of these verses based on two contemporary exegetes, Sayyid Qutb and al-Sha‘rawi. Historical and documentation methods were employed to collect the research data, while inductive, deductive, and comparative methods were used in analyzing the data. The study reveals that there are differences in the interpretative methodologies adopted by the two exegetes regarding the verses of Luqman’s education. At the same time, there are similarities in their interpretations and perspectives on the concept of education presented in these verses.
